Shira Plateau Camp

Shira Plateau Camp (Shira 1) sits on the western edge of Kilimanjaro’s Shira Plateau, where the trail leaves the forest for open moorland, on the Lemosho, Shira and Northern Circuit routes. It is the first plateau camp on those routes.

It is a basic camp with cleared pitches, long-drop toilets, a ranger shelter and a stream. Exposed on the plateau, it is windy and cold, so your operator’s mountain equipment sets the comfort level.

Tents and meals are provided by the trekking crew. This site refers specifically to Shira 1 rather than Shira 2, which should be confirmed against the itinerary.
