Lake Natron Camp

Lake Natron Camp is a low-impact eco-camp in the remote Great Rift Valley of northern Tanzania, set along the southern shore of the alkaline Lake Natron and facing the active Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano. It is the natural base for reaching this dramatic, little-visited corner of the country.

The camp has ten private, simply stylish tented suites with king beds and recycled linens, each with a private veranda facing the volcanic landscape. It runs off-grid on solar power and uses water-saving composting toilets, and short paths lead from the tents to a natural swimming pool fed by a freshwater spring.

Meals are served in a central mess tent, and the camp focuses on walking and the area’s geology rather than driving – from night ascents of the volcano to viewing the lesser flamingo colony and the Engare Sero footprints. Evenings are spent by the water or with the local Maasai team.
