Machame Camp

Machame Camp is a wilderness campsite at the upper edge of the rainforest on the Machame route, marking the end of the first day’s climb on Kilimanjaro. Climbers sleep in mobile tents set up by their trekking crew.

The camp itself is not hotel-style accommodation. Facilities are limited to cleared tent pitches, basic park toilets and a stream, so comfort depends mainly on the quality of your operator’s tents and sleeping gear.

Meals, drinking water, tents and camp setup are all handled by the trekking crew, not the camp. It is a damp, misty rainforest-edge stop and should be seen as a wilderness mountain camp.
