Moir Hut

Moir Hut is a secluded high camp at about 4,200 metres on the western side of Kibo, used mainly by climbers on the Northern Circuit and longer Lemosho itineraries. Despite the name, it is a tented campsite rather than a building, set in a protected valley beneath a ridge of volcanic rock. It makes an excellent base for short acclimatisation walks up into the surrounding Lent Hills, and feels completely removed from the busier southern trails.

This is a basic public campsite with no rooms or indoor accommodation. Climbers sleep in expedition tents pitched by the crew, and facilities are limited to shared pit latrines; there is no restaurant, tap water, electricity, Wi-Fi or private bathroom. The valley gives some shelter from the wind, but warmth comes entirely from your sleeping gear.

Meals, tents, water and camp setup are provided and carried by your trekking crew, not by the site itself. The camp sits at a trail junction on the circuit, and cold, thin air is the norm at this height. Short acclimatisation walks from here are a key reason longer itineraries stop at Moir, so follow your guide’s pacing.
