Zanzibar Ocean Retreat

Zanzibar

Overview

Zanzibar Ocean Retreat is a peaceful, upscale beachfront sanctuary situated along the island’s pristine, palm-fringed northeastern coast. Tucked away from the bustling commercial tourist hubs, this intimate retreat faces the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and sits directly adjacent to a traditional Swahili fishing village. The resort functions as a highly relaxing island getaway where travellers can fully decompress on soft white sands, enjoying the natural rhythm of the ocean breezes and the shifting tides.

The accommodation features a limited selection of beautifully designed, standalone bungalows and ocean-facing villas that embrace traditional coastal architecture, using local coral stone walls and high makuti thatched roofs. The interior living spaces are styled with minimalist elegance, incorporating hand-carved Zanzibar hardwood furniture, grand canopy king beds draped in fine mosquito netting, and private sea-view verandas equipped with traditional woven hammocks. The open-plan en-suite bathrooms are modern and bright, offering large walk-in stone showers supplied by eco-friendly solar hot water grids.

The central guest area focuses heavily on beachfront relaxation, featuring a stunning infinity swimming pool that looks directly out over the reef and an open-air massage banda providing specialized marine-botanical spa treatments. The on-site restaurant showcases a daily changing farm-to-table and ocean-to-table menu, highlighting freshly caught seafood and aromatic local spices sourced directly from island plantations. Evenings are best spent at the intimate sand-floor beach bar, sipping tropical cocktails around a crackling bonfire beneath a brilliant canopy of stars.
