Shira Camp

Shira Camp sits on the open Shira Plateau of Kilimanjaro, used on the Machame, Lemosho and Shira routes, with wide views towards Kibo. It is a natural high-altitude stop as climbers cross the plateau.

This is a basic tented camp with only cleared pitches, long-drop toilets, a ranger cabin and a stream. Exposed on the plateau, it can be very windy and cold, and comfort rests on your operator’s mountain equipment.

Tents and all meals are provided and prepared by the trekking crew. Note that itineraries may refer to Shira 1 or Shira 2, which are a half-day apart, so the exact site should be confirmed.
