Mandara Hut
Mount Kilimanjaro
Mandara Hut is the first overnight stop on the Marangu route up Mount Kilimanjaro, a cluster of permanent A-frame cabins in the rainforest zone. It gives climbers a sheltered start to the trek, reached after the first day’s walk from the Marangu Gate.
This is a basic mountain hut rather than a lodge. Guests sleep in shared bunk rooms with solar lighting, shared flush toilets and piped water, and there is a communal dining hall; comfort depends largely on your operator’s sleeping gear.
Meals are prepared by your trekking crew, not the hut, and cooked in a separate crew block. Bunk spaces are public and assigned by the park on a first-come basis, so they cannot be reserved for exclusive private use.
